Coffee Caramel Nuts

Happy National Coffee Day!

For some of you who are keen on food holidays, I’m messing up something here, but believe me or not, today 9/29 is National Coffee Day and the day after tomorrow, 10/1 is International Coffee Day!

By looking at these food holidays scheduled that close, I bet the food holiday creator was a huge fan of the dark colored drink, and I may gladly shake hands with them in these fun food holidays!

So do you like coffee?

Even though the smell of freshly brewed coffee is a symbolic drink to start a day, it’s a dark, bitter taste that some people can’t drink without sugar and milk(yes, that’s me until I turned 20!) As so many coffee chains rapidly spread all over around us, a cup of coffee from each cafe has a different flavor. Some cafes serve bitter flavored coffee, others serve slightly sour coffee…It sure is someone’s hobby to find their favorite one based on their preference.

So to celebrate National Coffee Day, I should brew my coffee on my own. But hey, as long as there is a nice flavorful coffee, I must have some treats to munch in. I had several leftover walnuts from my previous hike and leftovers from my dinner buddy’s late night snack party, so this time I made some coffee flavored nuts to enjoy this special day.

A sip of freshly brewed coffee with coffee flavored crunchy bittersweet nuts…isn’t it a dreamy way to spend a relaxing time?

Here is how to cook, so join me!

<Directions>

  1. Put walnuts in a pan and roast with medium low heat. Occasionally shake the pan to avoid burning. Remove from heat.
  2. In another pan, pour water, instant coffee and dissolve it. Add sugar and bring it to medium high heat.
  3. When the liquid is getting thick, add walnuts and stir well to coat the syrup to the nuts.
  4. Sprinkle powdered instant coffee by using a tea strainer. Enjoy!

<Cooking Tips>

You can roast walnuts in an oven too! In this way, spread a parchment sheet over the baking pan and place nuts evenly. 10 min in 350F° should be just fine:)

Be aware! The nuts disappear even faster than you finish a cup of coffee! I was thinking of these combos for the relaxing time, but they are also good for breakfast in a rush.

May this yummy coffee combo awaken your sleepy head.

    Imperfect Foods has almonds on sale. Almonds and coffee go together very well. I’ll be making this for gifts. Thank you!
