Happy International Fast Food Day! Let’s enjoy unhealthy(maybe) yet promised guilty pleasure food!
Who misses summer!? Even though it ended a few months ago, I feel like it was such a long time ago in this freezing room!
Let’s imagine a bright sun warming up everything under it. You get thirsty easily and you drink almost 1 gallon of water every day to cool down. Oh wait, the scene should be on the beach, with white sand and cool breeze from the ocean. Someone started to BBQ and if you know me, what’s the proper way to end BBQ? Yes! Yakisoba!!
…well, my neighbor doesn’t have yakisoba noodles available in the chilled section so let’s find an instant one to let my stomach feel summer, at least.

Instant Chow Mein Bun

- 4 hot dog buns
- 1 pack instant chow mein
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- ½ small crown broccoli stems – sliced
- ½ medium carrot – shred
- ¼ onion – sliced
- Some green leaf lettuce
- Some red ginger pickles
- Some parsley
<Directions>
- Pour olive oil in a pan and bring it to medium high heat. Add broccoli stems, carrot, onions and cook until they are perfectly cooked. Set aside. (Don’t need any seasoning for vegetables since the sauce is usually bold enough.)
- Cook instant chow mein according to the direction. (mine was to be cooked with a microwave, but I don’t have oneee—-! More interesting story follows in the end of today’s post)
- Toast hot dog buns.
- Mix chow mein and vegetables.
- Place lettuce, chow mein on hot dog buns and top with red ginger pickles and parsley. Enjoy!
Mmm, I miss you, summer!
Even though it’s instant, you get a unique flavor like teriyaki or sukiyaki etc, so let’s cook and enjoy it until we see summer for a few more months!
By the way, how do you cook instant chow mein? I grew up in the country where cup noodles were invented, so I’d say I’m an expert. But, after I moved to the US, I was so surprised. Cook instant chow mein by pouring water THEN microwave it? I mean…WHAT!?
The proper way to cook instant chow mein is(to me) pour boiled water and wait for 3 min(although we never wait that long…1 min is popular cooking time.)
If the direction suggest to use microwave, I seriously doubt that whether the cup, made with styrofoam or similar plastic contained cup would melt and cause a serious health problem…
How do you cook an instant chow mein? I don’t blame you if you are using microwave, so tell me your story;)

Oh yes! 7/11 is the BEST combini for a lot of things, but I am very fond of Lawson onigiri. I wish I could have a combini feast! Sake obento with the wet nori over rice, or okaka onigiri, and an umeboshi onigiri, jagabee ume/perilla chips, and a pudding flavor gari gari kun! Salt lychee drink! I can’t eat any of it now anyway. Those were fun times. I miss Japan, despite everything. I miss my ojiisan. Grandpa has passed now, bu

…sorry sent too soon…grandpa has passed now, but was the most fun, sweet kind, adorable person ever. He adopted me and I loved him dearly. What I would give to go to Yume-an with him and my babies and hang out at the park flying kites.
