Happy National Brownie Day! Did you know, today’s the day to enjoy another “mom’s baking” goodies with sweet memories!
Well well well, but to me, originally from Japan, I have never seen my mom making brownies nor has she tried it ever. But whenever I’m baking brownies, my dinner buddy always pokes head in the kitchen and says “Ah, my mom used to bake brownies a lot.”
He sometimes asks me to bake brownies, and this was the time that they are his current cravings.
I wanted to make a different flavor this time, and found a packet of Thai tea in the back of my pantry. Yes, I remember I was hiding it, and since I already got real Thai tea leaves from Asian grocery, I don’t have to be so stingy on them!
Ready to see how I made my brownie with flavor from another culture? Let’s bake!

<Cooking Tips>
Adding crushed nuts takes you to a level up brownie! I forgot, I will definitely add them next time!
Mmm, so good! Sometimes trying a different flavor is eye-opening yummy and this is what takes you to another baking fun!
Did your mom bake a lot of brownies? Or cookies? Or cakes? It’s a good topic to chat with your friend!

Hi there! Wow never!? You should definitely try it❤️ Thai tea is usually enjoyed with lots of sugar and milk and has a bright orange color. When you have a sip you’ll feel aromatic touch of vanilla and well, my husband oppose my opinion but I feel like the smell of incense in temple🤣 But truly, it’s good so I hope you’ll get a chance to try it soon😊💕✨

Very creative! I love Thai tea although as you have said, it has lots of milk and sugar. The caffeine is also quite strong. But it is delicious! I can only imagine how yummy your Thai tea brownie tastes like!

Hi Leah! Thank you❤️ I didn’t know that its caffeine is strong…I have to take a note because I’m always tempted to drink it right before I go to bed😂😂😂 Have a wonderful weekend🤗💕

Hi Tanooki, my Thai friend taught me how to make Thai tea a long time ago. I remember that it uses lots of black tea! Probably not best to drink before bedtime unless you are not sensitive to caffeine. I am jealous of friends who can drink coffee anytime of the day even before bed time and have no trouble falling asleep. I have to drink coffee before noon otherwise I will be up all night staring at the ceiling! 🙂 Have a warm and dry weekend! Stay safe!

Haha same here! To get my beauty sleep secure, I should avoid any caffeine dense drinks too😂🙌💕
I hope the rain and wind is getting calmer in your place❤️ My neighbor’s road gets mini-sized flood😂

I just made these– they are really oily and have a strong olive taste. I think I’m going to try again with a more subtle oil, or butter.

Hi there,
wow you tried it!? Thank you, and thank you for sharing your feedback!😆
Yes if you didn’t like the olive taste, you should probably try using neutral oil, like veg oil or sunflower oil etc. Of course butter is great, if you’re not vegan.
Also I can think of a tip to enjoy it: let it cool down after you remove it from the oven. If it’s still hot/warm, the brownie is still so soft and that’s why you’d feel it too greasy.
I hope this can help😊

I’ve been wanting to try this recipe for months and just finally got around to it! Thai tea is one of my favorite flavors and I really want to be able to showcase it in a dessert.
I tried again and used butter (Didn’t have enough vegetable oil (oops)), and only half a cup this time. I also used two packets of instant Thai tea and added 1/2 tsp salt.
I am genuinely not sure what happened to make my first batch not look at all like your picture lol.
I am going to try a third time and use more baking powder and some cardamom, star anise, and vanilla. These are a really beautiful color, but the taste doesn’t translate in a similarly bold way.
I did find the second time that using hot water and mixing the tea mix into that first before adding anything else helps to fully dissolve it– so you don’t get orange flecks throughout.

Oh wow you gave another try!? Thank you, I’m honored😊
Do you happen to have some photos of your creation? If it looks totally different from mine, I’m curious. It’s been a quite while since I made it last time(it’s so hard to get Thai tea here😂) and I’m currently not accessible to where I used to get them, I can’t experiment another try at this moment, so hopefully the “another time” comes soon😌💕
I love how you gave a twist on your creation! I’m beginner for using spice, so yours sounds pretty unique and tempting to try yours to see what it taste like!
By the way in terms of vanilla, did you use extract, powder, or vanilla bean? I usually use extract but I recently got powder so I gave it a try…turned out, it tasted like ramen broth🤣 I wonder if it was my mistake of how I used it or powder is what it’s like?🤔

I use vanilla extract, authentic not imitation. I’ve never heard of vanilla powder! I do have some pictures, but I’m not sure how I’d put them on here (I only made an account here for your blog, I have no experience with this website lol).

Oh wow really!? OMG I’m honored! I’m so happy you tried this recipe and took your precious time to share your experience🤩
It was my first try for using vanilla powder, so at this moment I don’t recommend you using powder unless someone points me out the misuse of them…stick with extract, that’s much flavorful🤣🙌
Oh yeah, probably WP can’t upload pics on comment…Do you have Instagram or twitter? Or you can email me the photos! tanooki.homemade.cafe@gmail.com 😊
