Happy National Chocolate Cake Day! As I told you yesterday, today’s the day to enjoy rich chocolate-lly flavored cakes!
Chocolate fans are everywhere, so whatever sweet treats like cookies, ice creams, shakes, and of course cakes are in front of you, you eventually find chocolate flavored one so easily.
I love chocolate cake too. The fluffy pillow like cake with chocolate aroma is perfect to accompany my tea time, dessert, snack or even for breakfast. Just 1 slice can make us a huge grin and those memories make you want more slices.
As I promised, I’m talking about a chocolate cake using a rosy berry apple from yesterday’s post, so hope you get inspired for what cakes you’d bake today.
Ready to check the recipe? Let’s bake! (Weeeeell I didn’t make it from scratch though!)

Rosy Berry Apple Chocolate Cake

Chocolate Cake
- ½ pack triple chocolate cake mix from Betty Clocker
- 100ml water
- ½ cup olive oil
- 20ml rum
- 1 Rosy Berry Apple from this recipe
Cream Decoration
- 8 oz heavy whipping cream
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
<Directions>
*makes 2+ 4.7inch round cakes.
- Mix all ingredients for chocolate together in a mixing bowl and bake it in the oven(preheated to 350°F) for 20~25 min. Remove from the oven and let it cool. When it’s cool completely, slice the top part to make the cake perfectly flat for decoration.
- Make a cocoa cream. Combine whipped cream, sugar, and cocoa powder together in a food processor and turn on until the cream gets thick. Set aside.
- Decorate cake with cream and rosy berry apple. Enjoy!
<Cooking Tips>
- I opted out for eggs when baking the cake, but you can absolutely add one.
- The reason why I say you can make 2+ cakes is that there will be leftover scraps when you cut the top part to make nice flat cakes. You can enjoy them by making parfait too, so don’t put them in your mouth immediately after you cut it or in the worst case, throw them away!(That’s a big NO NO!!)
<Bakeware Notes>
I used the 4.7 inch ramekins from Sweese. Check out my detailed review if you’re looking for new bakeware!

Sweet chocolatey-heaven! So unlike other types of cakes, I stick with Betty Clocker’s cake mix whenever I make chocolate cake. This is because…
- I want to save my cocoa powder for brownie recipe
- Whenever I crave for chocolate cake, it’s oh-I-need-one-RIGHT-NOW, so their ready to make mix is so convenient for me
- Betty Clocker’s are on a big sale occasionally
And yes, you’re seeing mini Christmas tree on my pics.
Don’t look at calendar now! There’s nothing that can make you happy.
My Christmas tree is here because I didn’t share my Christmas tree pic in the last holiday season so I felt pity:P
Cheers to Betty Clockers! Happy National Chocolate Cake Day all!

Oh really! But you know what John, I didn’t choose chocolate cake whenever there was a choice with another cake😂 My ultimate fav is actually Japanese strawberry shortcake😌🍰💕 (Aaaaand I always give the strawberry on top to someone else🤣 I now think myself so spoiled😂)

Thank you for sharing this recipe, Tanooki. 🙏
The cake looks absolutely beautiful and delicious. 😍
I first didn’t get what you mean with making the cakes flat. I usually just turn my cakes upside down and then the top is perfectly flat. 😆

!!! OMG you’re clever😳 I never thought about it before but wow, I think I gotta try your way🙌💕 So do you slice the bottom later? if I don’t do it the cake might not stand still😂

Hmm, now that you’re mentioning it, up to now, I never sliced anything because the cakes weren’t too bulged up. Especially when steaming, the cake is usually very soft and the small bulge is just compressed when turning it upside down. Maybe it‘s different with baking, as the cake forms a crust. 🤔
The last few cakes which I made in the oven didn‘t need to be flat, so I just left them the way they were. But I‘ll try next time I bake a cake that needs to be flat in the oven. Probably it depends on how much the cake bulges and how hard the crust is. 🤔
I just tried to imagine a wiggling cake 😁😁 Have a very nice weekend! 🤗
