Sandwich Made with Tofurky Deli Meat

Happy Meatless Monday, aaand this is the final day of Spring! Are you ready to say goodbye? I’m not, but to me, Spring has long gone thinking about how temperature goes up like this.

I don’t usually cook sandwiches for dinner, but as it got hot outside, it started to appear on my dinner table. Whenever a sandwich is concerned, we’ll face a big debate: what ingredients we should use as its filling. Before I started to focus on a vegetarian diet, some deli meat like ham, turkey breast, or salami were the must if it’s not caprese or PB and J.

Have you seen/tried tofurky? It’s a plant-based deli slices and compared to other plant based deli meat, it was reasonable so I decided to give it a try.

<Tanooki’s Very Honest Review for Tofurky Deli Meat>

tofurky

Ummmmmm, I’m sorry, but I don’t know if I’ll buy it again. Yes as being plant based and they’re nice and thin like deli ham or turkey breast, we settled on the result for “well it’s nice to have, but it’s not a must kind of food.” The texture was very similar to deli ham, but the taste didn’t make us fall in love. If you really want some deli meat kind of ingredients for your sandwich, it’s nice to give it a try but you’ll miss the real deli ham/turkey breast. I could hear it saying “yes, I’m a FAKE meat!” For vegetarian/vegan people who have never eaten meat, no, real meat tastes muuuuuch better!

Also I put the amazon associate link to the tofurky product page above, but do check the price before you put them in your cart. Amazon sometimes set the price crazily high, but sometimes it’s so close or lower than your neighborhood. So why did I put the link? As a reference for product info(hope you can learn about ingredients or what other people talk about it) so no, don’t throw a stone to me! lol

Do you have any other plant based deli meat options? Let me know because I got to explore more about plant based food!

  1. Haha appreciate your honest reply. I don’t like the vegan slices or sausages. I prefer working with natural tofu and tempeh and seasoning it.

Wow, that sandwich sounds very delicious! 🤩 Although I would probably prefer it with the real stuff, not the vegan alternative. I haven‘t tried plant based alternatives for sandwiches yet. Unfortunately, these products are hard to find and very expensive here. That’s why I’m not keen on spending money and risking that I don’t like it. 😵‍💫 But the combination of the avocado and mustard sounds very interesting.

Haha~it’s same here, Livia! Although these plant based food production companies say they’re trying to reduce the price as similar to the real meat stuff, still it’s a little pricy here today and in most cases, it’s not available at every store😫

It seems the market is expanding when we talk about meat alternatives to make some patties or ground version, deli meat still have plenty of room to improve🤔

Ya, the availability in the stores is pretty scarce here, too. 😞 But you‘re right, the market is expanding, and I think many people are starting to switch to plant based. So maybe the situation will improve, soon. 😁👍

  5. There’s a plant based deli meat called Worthington plant powered deli slices. They do have egg in them, so it’s not one most vegans would eat, but I ate some before I realized there was egg (some boxes are egg free, but not any I can find near me) 😂 and it was definitely the best vegetarian deli slices that I’ve had. I tried the corned beef slices and made French dip sandwiches, they turned out soooo good!

      1. I’m not sure if you have any Smith’s or Krogers near you (grocery stores are usually different in California compared to Utah), but that’s where I’ve been able to find them at!
