Double Citrus Mojito

Happy National Mojito Day! If you’re a fan of the refreshing boozy drink, let’s raise your glass now!

As it is summer, our neighbor’s grocery stores have blooming fresh mints and lemon/limes. My body was expecting a nice cold drink over the past weekend, so here it is: boozy party time!

I had both lemon and lime waiting to be transformed into yummy drinks, so I gave a twist of classic mojito by adding double kinds of citrus!

Ready for a party? Let’s cook!

  • 1/2 lime for juice
  • 1/4 lemon for juice
  • 1 hand fresh mint
  • 1/4 cup white rum
  • 1 tablespoon simply syrup(sugar:water with 1:1 ratio)
  • 300ml seltzer water
  • 1/2 lime for garnish – quarter cut, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 lemon for garnish – quarter cut, thinly sliced
  • Some ice cubes.

<Directions>

  1. Combine lime and lemon juice, mint, white rum in a mixing bowl and coarsely poke the mint leaves with a fork.
  2. Pour mint mixture in a glass and pour seltzer water. Add sliced lime and lemon, ice cubes and stir. Enjoy!

<Cooking Tips>

If you want to make it alcohol free, just omit white rum. Or for you, the real mojito and for your kids, mojito mocktail! Doesn’t it sound like a perfect summer party?

Mmm, I think my throat is now perfectly refreshed! After I turned 21 years old, I kept looking for what boozy drinks are to my liking, and mojito is one of the best! It’s not too sweet but has a tangy flavor from lime(by the way in Japan, we usually use lemon…lime is so hard to get!) and the soothing mint flavor absolutely made me fall in love with them!

I drink only on special occasions now, but as I rarely drink, today’s mojito was extra yum!

<Cocktails and Meanings Behind Them>

Have you ever heard that each and every kind of cocktail has a special meaning? I thought it’s a world wide knowledge like flowers have meanings in them too, so when I found out there is no such thing in the English world, I was shocked.

For example, mojito means

Translated by Google: Heal the dryness of my heart

Translated by Tanooki: I’m lonely! I need someone beside me tonight, so come here and flirt with me!!

I’ve never been to authentic fancy bars in Japan (Izakaya was my thing because they got food too), but there should be romantic flirting going on with a couple who met there for the first time, without any words but rows and rows of glasses of cocktails as a communication tool.

Interested in more? Here is other cocktails and their meanings

Screwdrivers – “My heart is stolen by you”

Daiquiri – “Hope”

Bloody Mary – “Resolutely win”

Moscow Mule – “If you have a fight, make up on the same day”

And here is a tricky one…even though ingredients are the same, whether you shake it or not can change the cocktail name and its meaning in a completely different direction.

Gin and lime – “never fading love”

Gimlet – “long farewell”

So imagine the scene of a guy who is about to propose to his love and bought gin and lime, but she stirred it so well and looked at him…that means she just declined him. He would soon receive a glass of frozen margarita on the house.

*frozen margarita means “cheer up.”

Do you think it’s interesting? I mean not failing-to-propose-story, the cocktails got its meaning. I think it is, but it’d take some time to be an expert because there are so many cocktails in the world!

    That Mojito sounds very delicious. I don’t know if I ever tried Mojito because I’m not a fan of Rum, but we usually mix Caipiroshka, which is Vodka with limes and sugar syrup. I think I’ll try it with lemon and limes, too. 🤩 Lime/lemon is so refreshing! 🤩👍
