Since thanksgiving ends, what’s waiting for us next is Christmas! Because a lot of people are expecting family gatherings and gift exchange events, I’m seeing people started to share how their baking turned out to be such an edible art on SNS.
Are you a baking lover? If yes, you should mark your calendar. Tomorrow is National Cookie Day! If you’re not a baking lover, well but I’m sure you like cookies!
Every time I visit Asian grocery, I find classic or possibly new types of matcha flavored snacks. But they are so precious one because I gotta drive at least 30 min to get one, so homemade is a better idea for me now.
Do you like matcha cookies? This is a Japanese classical sweet treat so indulge your taste buds this holiday season!
Let’s bake!

Matcha Cookie

- 1 stick unsalted butter
- 60g sugar
- 1 large egg – beaten
- 170g all purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons cornstarch
- 1 pinch salt
- 1 tablespoon matcha powder
<Direction>
- Combine butter, sugar, egg, flour, cornstarch and matcha powder together in a mixing bowl. Mix them together until they become 1 big ball.
- Transfer the dough in a container and let it rest in a fridge for about 30 min.
- Preheat an oven to 375°F.
- Spread parchment sheet on a baking pan.
- Remove the dough from the fridge and spread the dough using a rolling pin.
- When the dough thickness is about ¼ inch, make your favorite cookie shape by using a cookie cutter. Place them on a parchment sheet spread on a baking pan.
- Transfer the dough in the oven and bake it for about 15 min.
<Cooking Tips>
Don’t overcrowd your baking pan.
When the dough starts to be dull, transfer it back to a fridge and cool it.
Bitter sweet with aromatic matcha! I chose the cutter tiny one, but of course you can choose whatever shape of cutters, and isn’t it fun to think what cookie shape/decoration you’ll add to your homemade cookies?
Maybe you noticed, but my cookie cutter must look familiar with my previous posts whenever there is a carrot with decoration purpose…yes, that’s the one, and the cutter is supposed to be a vegetable cutter.
And can you see what shape it is? A lot of people complimented the shape with either star or flower, but it’s actually flower, the Japanese plum shape.
Hmm, I think making cookies with a variety of shapes, and playing the game to see what shape they’re supposed to be sounds fun, right?
Happy baking, have a wonderful National Cookie Day and weekend!

When my wife and I were in Tokyo a few years ago, we ate at a restaurant that made Matcha the old-fashioned way – and here in Beverly Hills, there is a Japanese restaurant that does it as well…so delicious and full of rich flavor! These cookies sound terrific as always!

Thank you John! Wow it must be a wonderful experience for you! I tried my real matcha in traditional way when I was 14. All kids including me thought it’s like swallowing so-called good medicine that works for everything😂 I’m so glad you thought it’s delish and full of rich flavor! Want another one?😉🍵✨

You know, since I’ve lived close to the equator, December doesn’t bring that Christmas-Holiday-Cookies-Gingerbread-Misteltoe-Snow-and-such-Feeling anymore. 😞 It’s just so different here. At temperatures around 30 degrees, I don’t feel like baking Christmas cookies at all. 😬 But I wish you a lot of fun and good times baking cookies and living the Christmas season 🤗🤗🤗
